In response to the widespread cancellation of work that has hit the music profession as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Musicians Union has set up a £1M hardship fund that members with genuine and pressing hardship can apply to.
Many in the accountancy industry have been lobbying for the HMRC to extend the self-assessment tax deadline beyond the 31st of January. They have recently confirmed that they are not intending to extend the deadline but there are still options for those struggling to complete their self-assessment tax return on time.
Rishi Sunak has announced a new package of measures to support businesses in some sectors that have been forced to close as a result of the latest Covid restrictions. Businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors may be eligible for a grant worth up to £9,000, the Chancellor has announced to support businesses through to spring. This is in addition to the local restrictions support grants announced in 2020 and forms part of a package of £4.6 billion in new lockdown grants that have been designed to support businesses and protect jobs. It is alongside the 100% business rates relief for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses and the furlough scheme.
Following the £150 billion pounds injection from the Bank of England, the Chancellor has made yet more changes to the Coronavirus support packages which will help support workers and business until spring 2021.
The Government have been listening and responding to feedback. It has announced it will increase the generosity and reach of its winter support scheme to ensure livelihoods and jobs across the UK are protected through the difficult months ahead.
